Every company operating in this era of intense completion is endeavoring to enhance its performance by augmenting its supply chain efficiencies. For this, the companies emphasize on the principles of supply chain management or SCM for better growth and development. Supply chain management is actually the core process that involves planning, implementation and controlling of the operations across the whole supply chain.
The whole purpose of having a supply chain management system in place is to meet the growing demands of the business efficiently, especially the customer requirements. A robust SCM controls all the movement and storage of raw materials, work-in-process inventory and distribution of finished goods through the process life cycle of the company.
A look at SCM from a gross level would indicate towards one of the main functional area for a SCM system, the logistics management. Although, most industry experts would include logistics management under the broad umbrella of logistics, there are significant others who don’t consider it to so.
